    Life of Pi

    Yann Martel’s third novel, Life of Pi (2001), follows protagonist Piscine “Pi” Patel on a journey of survival after the cargo ship carrying him and his family sinks in the Pacific Ocean. As the lone survivor, Pi spends 227 days on a lifeboat in the company of a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. The fantasy-adventure novel explores the tensions between spirituality and practicality, and between reason and imagination. It also raises questions about the nature of stories. The international bestseller gained Martel global recognition and won a number of awards and accolades, including the Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction, the Man Booker Prize for Fiction and the Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature. The 2012 film adaptation, written by David Magee and directed by Ang Lee, grossed more than US$600 million worldwide and won four Academy Awards.

    Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) III

    The Light Armoured Vehicle (LAV) III is an eight-wheeled, moderately well-protected combat vehicle capable of movement on most types of terrain. It was designed and manufactured by General Motors Defense (General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada since 2002) at the company’s plant in London, Ontario. The LAV III entered service in 1999. The vehicle notably saw service in the War in Afghanistan as well as in many UN missions. Between 2011 and 2019, LAV III vehicles went through an upgrade process to the new LAV 6.0 standard.

    The Line 3 Replacement Program (also known as L3RP) is an upgrade to the Enbridge Mainline pipeline. The existing crude oil pipeline runs from Hardisty, Alberta to Superior, Wisconsin. The 1,660 km long upgrade is the largest project in the history of Calgary-based Enbridge. The Alberta to Manitoba section of the L3RP has been in service since December 2019.
