Festival international de jazz de Montréal (FIJM)

The Festival international de jazz de Montréal (FIJM, translated in English as Montreal International Jazz Festival and often referred to simply as the Jazz Fest) is an annual music festival in downtown Montreal. First held in 1980, the festival initially took place in several locations across downtown Montreal before settling around the Place des Arts. The Jazz Fest was founded by Alain Simard in association with André Ménard, Denyse McCann and Alain de Grosbois. It has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest jazz festival. It is also considered Canada’s largest music festival. It generally lasts 10 days and takes place from the end of June to the beginning of July.

A filibuster is a parliamentary delaying tactic. It is typically employed by opposition parties to delay or prevent the passage of a bill they don’t like. A filibuster is brought about when legislators speak at great length in opposition to a bill; propose numerous, often trivial amendments; or raise many parliamentary points of privilege. All of this is designed to keep the bill from coming to a vote. The goal of a filibuster is to either change a bill or stop its passage.

Filipino Food in Canada

According to the 2021 census, there were over 925,000 Filipino Canadians in Canada. That year, the Philippines was also the second most common country of birth among people who moved to Canada. (See Immigration to Canada.) As a result, Filipino food is an emerging cuisine in Canada. However, it’s underrepresented in Canada’s diverse food landscape compared to other Asian cuisines. (See also: Chinese Food in Canada; Indian Food in Canada.) Filipino cuisine is made up of multiple food traditions. It combines Indigenous Austronesian food practices with other overseas traditions. Notably, the Philippines' colonial past led to Spanish and American culinary influences. Mexican, Chinese and other international influences also shaped Filipino food because of trade or as indirect results of colonialism.
