    Cougar

Cougar, puma or mountain lion (Felis concolor, family Felidae), is the most gracile of the New World wild cats. It has long legs and a tail, and a small head (similar to the African cheetah); thus, it has also been called the American cheetah. Colour varies from tawny to cinnamon or reddish brown; underparts are dull white. The backs of the ears, markings on the face and the last 5–8 cm of the tail are black.

    Cranes in Canada

The crane (Gruidae) is a family of large, long-necked birds with sturdy bills and long, powerful legs. Of the 15 species found worldwide, at least 5 have become rare, partly due to the loss of nesting habitat. Cranes nest in marshes, bogs, sedge meadows and upland tundra. In Canada, two species occur: the sandhill crane (Grus canadensis) is common, although one subspecies, the greater sandhill crane, is considered threatened in BC; the whooping crane (G. americana) is endangered. The sandhill crane nests as far north as Banks and Devon islands.

    Crayfish

Crayfish are moderately sized freshwater Crustacean of order Decapoda, similar in appearance to the American lobster. The term is also applied occasionally to marine spiny lobsters, although there have been attempts to discourage this usage. In the southern US, the preferred spelling is "crawfish." Crayfish are the écrevisses of French cuisine. Freshwater crayfish, found on all continents except Africa, number about 300 species worldwide. Distribution spans both hemispheres except for a narrow tropical belt approximately 15–20° on either side of the equator.

Fisheries in Canada: Lobsters, Crab and Shrimp

In Canada, all crustacean species with significant economic value are in the order Decapoda. Decapods, which have five pairs of walking legs, include lobsters, crab and shrimp. These species constitute most of the dollar value of Canadian fisheries. In some areas, particularly in the Atlantic provinces, the local economy is almost completely dependent on them.
